Live the Jesus Lifestyle

Live the Jesus Lifestyle

Based on Matthew 6:25–7:23 | Reflection from The Bible with Nicky and Pippa Gumbel (Classic Version, 2025)

Jesus’ words are the greatest words ever spoken—simple, powerful, and radically challenging. He doesn’t just call us to believe; He calls us to live differently. To live purposefully. To live like Him.

One of His most direct teachings is also one of the hardest to consistently live out:

“Do to others what you would have them do to you.” – Matthew 7:12

Or, as The Message version puts it: “Ask yourself what you want people to do for you, then grab the initiative and do it for them.”

It’s clear. It’s powerful. And it’s deeply countercultural.

Stop Worrying. Start Trusting.

In Matthew 6:25–34, Jesus tells us not to worry about our lives—what we’ll eat, drink, or wear. That doesn’t mean we stop preparing or planning. It means we stop worrying ahead.

“Look at the birds of the air… your heavenly Father feeds them.” – Matthew 6:26

“Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?” – Matthew 6:27

God knows your needs before you even speak them (v.32). Jesus invites us to live one day at a time—trusting Him moment by moment.

As Corrie ten Boom once said:

“Worry does not empty tomorrow of sorrow; it empties today of strength.”

Sort Out Your Priorities

Jesus doesn’t just address our worry—He reshapes our ambition:

“Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” – Matthew 6:3

God isn’t interested in being used. He wants to be known. He desires your heart more than your hustle. Your presence with Him matters more than what you’re trying to get from Him.

Choose Mercy Over Judgment

In Matthew 7:1–5, Jesus challenges us to examine our own hearts before pointing fingers at others. We often don’t know someone’s story—the pain they’ve carried, the battles they’ve fought.

Before we try to fix others, Jesus tells us to look inward. Instead of harsh criticism, we’re called to sow mercy, kindness, and love.

Be Persistent in Prayer

Jesus makes bold promises to those who keep praying:

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” – Matthew 7:7

God isn’t distant. He’s a good Father who hears and responds with good gifts (vv.9–11). Prayer isn’t about perfect words—it’s about consistent, faith-filled pursuit.

Walk the Narrow Road

Jesus paints a picture of two paths. The wide road is easy—but it leads to destruction. The narrow road is harder—but it leads to life (Matthew 7:13–14).

Living the Jesus lifestyle means choosing that narrow path every day. It’s a road of humility, purity, integrity, forgiveness, and faith.

You’ll know you’re on it—not just by what you say—but by the fruit your life produces:

“By their fruit you will recognize them.” – Matthew 7:16

A lifestyle marked by love, truth, purpose, and impact.

A Prayer to Begin the Journey

Lord, as I face the challenge of living the Jesus lifestyle this year, thank You that nothing is impossible with You. Fill me today with Your Holy Spirit, and help me live the kind of life that deep down, I long to live—a life that bears good fruit.
