Proverbs 3:5-7 reminds us to trust God fully and let Him guide our paths. Many of us live plotless lives, moving from one stage to the next without purpose, like a wandering TV show. But God has a specific destiny for each of us—a customized calling designed to bring Him glory and expand His kingdom. As Dr. Tony Evans says, “Destiny is your customized life calling for which God has equipped and ordained you in order to bring Him the greatest glory.”
Our destiny starts by placing God at the center of our lives. As Isaiah 43:6-7 states, our primary purpose is to glorify God and make His name known. When we fully trust and obey God, He reveals our purpose, aligning our actions with His divine will. Without God, we lose sight of our true destiny.
Living without a sense of purpose can leave us feeling lost and depressed. But when we discover the unique role God has for us, life takes on new meaning. Every member of the body of Christ has a role to play (Romans 12:4-8). The Apostle Paul, despite hardships, never lost sight of his God-given mission, drawing strength from the destiny Jesus gave him on the Damascus Road.
We know we’re fulfilling our purpose by the impact we have on others. King David served his generation and left a lasting impact (Acts 13:36). Our legacy won’t be measured by material things but by the eternal influence we have on those around us.
Pursuing God’s destiny requires focus, much like Hank Aaron ignoring distractions and hitting a home run. Dr. Evans illustrates this with a story: sometimes, we ask God for something small, like a nickel, when He wants to give us something far greater, like a $20 bill. Trusting in God’s larger plan will always lead to more than we can imagine.
Living with destiny in mind transforms life, providing hope, joy, and a sense of purpose. When you know what you’re here for, the distractions lose their power, and your life becomes a reflection of God’s plan.
